Durability, Security & Ventilation with Integrated Fly Screen Shutters
As an addition to the Blockhouse and Plantation Security Shutter range, the integrated fly screen shutter provides an aesthetic and durable solution for security and added protection.
A strong fly screen mesh is installed onto an existing security shutter, which adds an excellent layer of resistance to keep unwanted visitors and insects at bay.
The ventilation properties of the mesh material allow you to enjoy fresh air all the time without compromising views and providing peace of mind.

Fly Screen Characteristics
Design Features & Materials
Our fly screen shutters are only available to install on a hinge reveal four-sided frame, with options for single, double, triple, or four panels that operate either vertically or horizontally. The mesh panel frames come in five standard colours: white, light grey, dark grey, charcoal, and bronze.
Customers can also choose from two mesh types:
Our standard mesh is made from PVC-Coated Fibre Glass. This is a suitable option for homeowners who don’t have cats or larger animals that use windows to access the home. It also provides optimal protection against mosquitoes, lizards, snakes, bugs, and other pests.
Our “tuff mesh” design is custom-woven with PVC-coated polyester. While the more expensive choice, it offers more durability against a wider range of unwanted guests or stronger, more inquisitive animals like cats, birds or monkeys.
*Please note: The mesh is installed as taut as possible, but larger mesh panels might show slight resistance over time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Insect and Security Screens
Fly screens are usually made from mesh materials such as fiberglass, aluminum, polyester, and stainless steel, often coated with PVC or vinyl for strength and resistance against harsher weather.
The material you choose for your screens should depend on your specific requirements. For example, fiberglass is a more cost-effective and flexible solution, while aluminum and stainless steel provide more durability.
At Nolans, we offer two types of fly screens: a standard mesh made from PVC-Coated Fibre Glass and a tuff mesh made from custom-weaved PVC-Coated Polyester. The standard mesh is ideal for keeping out a variety of insects and pests, while the tuff mesh is a more durable option suited for keeping stronger or more inquisitive animals out. The mesh material is also secured with rubber banding to avoid frame distortion.
Visit one of our showrooms to see our products in person or contact us for more information.
The warranty for both the standard and tuff mesh is 1 year, and the shutter warranty is the same as our standard window shutter products.

Our insect screens are integrated into the inner part of the shutter frame and slide into two integrated slots. Depending on the specific design of the shutter and sliding tracks, removal for cleaning or replacement often involves a specific lifting and tilting motion to disengage the screen from the top and bottom channels of the frame.
A flathead screwdriver can also be a useful tool for prying the screen from the frame, if it’s a tight fit. It would be best to contact a professional for installation and removal to avoid damage or injury.

For routine cleaning, you can wipe fly screens down with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and light dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads as these can damage the mesh.
